Spiritual Direction
Dr. Christina Y. Chan, OCDS
(Spiritual Director)
Dr. Chan received her medical degree and her combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric residency training at the University of Tennessee. She subsequently completed her Clinical and Research fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Chan has lived her vocation as a consecrated single laywoman and a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelite (OCDS). She has served local Catholic parishes in multiple pastoral roles including catechist, youth minister, addiction healing minister, prison minister, choir, sacristan, and eucharistic minister. In January 2022, she responded to God’s call to retire from her medical profession and dedicate her time and energy in church ministry work helping others to re-discover the joy of being a beloved child of God! In July 2025, she was commissioned as a spiritual director by the Lanteri Center for Ignatian Spirituality and certified to provide spiritual direction including the 19th annotation of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.

Spiritual Direction:
Spiritual direction is the help given by one Christian (director) to another (seeker), which enables the seeker to be attentive to the Lord's personal communication to him or her. Serving as a gentle guide in the Catholic tradition of spiritual direction, our director helps you deepen your relationship with God through reflective conversation, prayerful listening, and quiet discernment.

Spiritual Direction
A Sacred Space for Your Journey with God

At Beautify Catholic Life, our Spiritual Direction ministry offers a confidential and grace-filled setting where you explore, deepen, and respond to God’s movement in your life—guided by faith, prayer, and pastoral wisdom.
What Is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is the help given by one Christian (director) to another (seeker), which enables the seeker to be attentive to the Lord's personal communication to him or her.
Our approach is not counseling or decision-making advice. Rather, it is a prayerful encounter rooted in the conviction that the Holy Spirit is the true director—and our role is to help you hear, discern, and respond faithfully.
What to Expect in a Session
One-on-One conversation: approximately 60 minutes, either in person or online
Grounded in prayer, with space to share your lived experience of God, joys, sorrows, or questions
Deep listening and discerning questions support spiritual awareness—not coaching or advice-giving
Held in trust, the focus is on your journey with God.
Who Can Benefit
Whether you’re struggling in prayer, wrestling with a choice, or simply longing to know God more closely, spiritual direction invites you to:
Discern the Spirit’s activity and guidance in your daily life
Grow in prayerful awareness and union with Christ
Respond to God’s call with clarity and peace.
Why Beautify Catholic Life?
Our spiritual direction is offered by Catholic spiritual directors or religious priests and sisters, including clergy and lay professionals trained in the Catholic Church tradition. Each director integrates pastoral sensitivity with theological depth—walking with you wherever you are on the spiritual path.
